LBJ-635 Project

The goal of this project is to relieve severe congestion on 13 miles of Interstate Highway
I-635 (LBJ) from just west of I-35E (near Luna Road) to just east of United States Highway (US) 75 (near Greenville Ave.), and south on I-35E from I-635 to Loop 12.

Update

On September 4, 2009, TxDOT officials executed a comprehensive development agreement (CDA) with the LBJ Infrastructure Group to design, construct, finance, operate and maintain the 13-mile LBJ-635 corridor in Dallas County.

On May 7, 2009, TxDOT held a public hearing concerning the disclosure of financial information for the LBJ-635 Comprehensive Development Agreement. The public hearing summary and analysis is now available for review.

Project Partnerships

On February 26, 2009, the Texas Transportation Commission conditionally awarded the LBJ 635 project to LBJ Infrastructure Group, which will finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the 13-mile corridor for 52 years.

LBJ Infrastructure Group (formerly LBJ Development Partners) will rebuild the LBJ-635 corridor using an innovative new design, enabling the new highway to be constructed while minimizing the need for additional right of way.

Improvements

The project will be completed after a maximum 5-year construction period. The New LBJ will feature the following improvements:

• 8 rebuilt main lanes (a foot wider than they are now)
• Additional shoulders on the outside of the main lanes
• Continuous frontage roads (two or three lanes wide)
• 6 barrier-separated managed toll lanes located between or below all frontage roads

Managed Toll Lanes

Managed toll lanes feature the movement of traffic at a faster, more reliable speed (50 mph) by adjusting the toll rate up and down as the number of vehicles increases or decreases respectively.

Motorists will have a choice of either using the managed toll lanes or remaining on the improved and rebuilt free main lanes.
